At present, there are usually two types of power amplifiers on the market, one using Polar loop structure and the other using power reversal method.
The first structure has a higher power added efficiency, but requires power detection and a complex feedback network to adjust the output phase and amplitude of the power amplifier, resulting in a complex design, high cost, and large chip area. The second structure is simple to implement, low in cost, small in chip area, but has the disadvantage of high static current and low efficiency. Suzhou Innolux Technology has adopted the second solution to achieve high efficiency in power addition, resulting in a small module area of 6mm6mmLGA packaging. At the same time, by optimizing the output matching network of the power amplifier and the static current of the power amplifier in the design, the disadvantages of the second scheme were improved as much as possible. In fact, the static current of RDA6216 is very low in EDGE mode, with a static current of 150mA in GSMEGSM frequency band and 85mA in DCSPCS frequency band. It also has a high maximum linear power added efficiency, with 28% in GSM/EGSM frequency band and 29% in DCS/PCS frequency band.
